What is Interstellar Socialism?
Interstellar Socialism recognizes that the ultimate goal of socialism—collective ownership of the resources of society—will be viable only when these developments become reality:
Replicator
Warp drive
Transporter
Socialism will happen at about the same time as interstellar travel. Phasers and photon torpedoes are not necessary for community ownership to succeed. Replicators, of course—as the means of production—must be accessible to all.
Sounds Great, but How Can We Make this Happen?
Interstellar Socialism does away with the Marxist Historical Materialist obsessions with class struggle, revolution, and overthrowing the ruling class. Instead we see a more hopeful set of intermediate goals:
Dramatic increase in science funding.
Healthcare for all.
A tax system which nurtures human beings in the same ways that we currently nurture capital investment (tax credits to reward corporations for paying living wage, comparable to tax credits for capital development). Atax system that rewards “job creators” for paying a living wage; not for planning trips to Mars!
Bodily autonomy.
Increased and equitable education funding.
